5th Graders at West Hamlin celebrated Earth Day on Monday with the school's 2nd Annual Earth Day Fair! The students made posters for the event using recycled materials, created Earth Day themed games and activities, and made presentations with recycled objects.
💚🌎💚 5th Graders used their Earth friendly creations and to teach their peers and community members about the importance of reducing, reusing, and recycling! Great job, 5th Grade!
👏 Thank you everyone who came out to support students at the 2nd Annual Earth Day Fair! ♻️
Today is National Bus Driver Appreciation Day, and LCS is fortunate to have some of the best drivers around! Many students start and end their school day on the bus. Drivers are responsible for safely getting students to and from school, games, field trips, and more. Drivers put in countless hours training in a number of areas, like first-aid, to ensure they are ready for any scenario while out on the road.
School, and the events, games, and trips, that come with it would not be possible without our transportation team. If you get the chance today, give a shoutout or a wave to your driver to let them know how much they are appreciated!

LCS Bus Drivers recently competed in a School Bus Safety Roadeo against their counterparts from Kanawha County Schools. In a Bus Roadeo, drivers maneuver their bus through various obstacles, complete challenging turns, and drive in tight spaces. Some obstacles are just wide enough for the bus to get through.
All of the competitors were outstanding! It was a challenging course but these drivers made it look like a breeze. Congratulations to the following LCS School Bus Drivers for taking home one of the top spots in this Roadeo!
1st Place - Del Harris
2nd Place - Christina Stone
3rd Place - Michael Walker
4th Place - Wayne Salmons
5th Place - Clyde Ramey
6th Place - Freddie Joe Adkins
Fire up the (virtual) welder! GVMS opened up a Welding & Electrical CTE Program for students this semester and the course has been a hit! To ensure students got the most out of the program, GVMS Principal, Dr. Porter, secured a grant from TC Energy for two virtual welders! The virtual welder allows students to interactively learn the basics of welding and is also a great tool for learning welding safety. Way to go, Wildcats!

LCS Families -
Severe weather in our schools can be scary, and yesterday’s storms came through our area quicker and stronger than anticipated. Thankfully all of our schools have prepared for severe weather, and our staff and students executed those procedures efficiently yesterday.
We sincerely thank our school staff and our support staff – our bus drivers, transportation staff, custodians, cooks, clerks and all professional and service staff – for making sure students were safe and reassured. I know many of you were also dealing with spotty phone service and power issues, and you still found a way to make it work.
We know disruptions caused by severe weather can be inconvenient and stressful for families. Your flexibility and understanding during these types of events does not go unnoticed and everyone at LCS is grateful to all of our families.
