8th graders at Hamlin took to the sky (sort of) recently! Students took a tour of the Marshall University Bill Noe Flight School. They took a tour of the schools hangar and sat in the cockpit of the airplanes. They also had the chance to check out the flight simulator and test their skills as a pilot.

What a week!
Below zero temps - Check
Heavy snow accumulation - Check
Here is to better (and slightly warmer) weather next week.
With all of the changes this week, we would like to thank the parents/guardians of our awesome students. Whether it's rearranging a work schedule or helping with online assignments (or both), your understanding and cooperation does not go unnoticed.
We would also like to thank our dedicated staff too. The winter team has been out daily assessing road conditions, teachers have been working with students online, and school personal have been taking care of our buildings and grounds. A true team effort!

January weather is here which means delays, closings, and early outs. Making the decision to alter the schedule is a team effort and involves constant communication. Below is an overview of the process LCS Superintendent, Frank Barnett, uses to determine if a change to the schedule is necessary.
Please do not go onsite of the Duval School area at this time.
Asbestos is currently being removed and it is not safe for the public to enter the school.
We also ask that you do not disturb the workers while they are working as the site is considered dangerous.
The contractor will be setting aside a pile of brick marked for the public once demolition starts on the building.
Thank you.
Check out this new school bus stop arm we are piloting in Lincoln County. The arm is equipped with neon red lights and extends nearly 5.5 feet. Bus Gates, a parent owned Illinois based company, created this product and LCS is the first district in West Virginia using this type of stop arm extension. Our driver using the new stop arm extender loves it and feels that it does help vehicles stop sooner.

GVMS recently had a hoodie clothing drive at school. The school's homerooms competed to see what class could bring in the most amount of clothes to be donated. Congratulations to Mrs. Adkins' 6th grade homeroom for taking the top spot! And thank you to all the students and their families for your donations!
All schools in Lincoln County will be operating on a two-hour delay tomorrow, December 19th 2023.
Literary great Edgar Allan Poe, Ms. Walden's class mascot, has been roaming the GVMS halls at night looking for a new spot to hide by the time students arrive in the morning. Mr. Poe is tasking students with finding him and answer a question about literary techniques. Correct answers earn a prize. What a creative way to bring learning to life!
